Maureen (McGinnis) Vanderweerd

Maureen Vanderweerd, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, entered into eternal rest on August 26, 2025. Born June 2, 1963 in Long Branch NJ. Maureen’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, laughter, and devotion to her family and friends.

She was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph McGinnis (predeceased 1999) and was lovingly raised by Peter and Patricia Szeles. She grew up surrounded by the love of her sisters, Dori McGinnis and Caroline King, and her brother, Paul Szeles.

Maureen raised her three children with strength, dedication, and endless love, working hard to provide for them on her own until she met the love of her life, William Vanderweerd, who she is now reunited with in Heaven. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, joy, and countless memories, raising their children Patricia Burdick, Robert Pittius , and Glenn Pittius. She was also the loving mother of Jacqueline Pittius, who predeceased her in 1986. Maureen welcomed her son-in-law George Burdick into the family with open arms and loved him as one of her own.

Her heart overflowed with the blessings of her grandchildren—Samantha, Amanda, Ashley, Bobbie, George, Glenn Jr., Jacquline, Presley, Payton, Madeline, and Maverick—and grew even fuller with her great-grandchildren Emily, Harper, Theodore, Penelope, Benjamin, and Adalynn. Each one brought her endless joy and a sparkle to her eyes.

Maureen’s happiest moments were those spent with her family and friends, whether it was sharing stories, filling a room with laughter, or enjoying quiet time with her little ones. She will be remembered always for her kindness, strength, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.

Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though deeply missed, Maureen’s spirit will remain a guiding light and a reminder of the beauty of love, friendship, and family.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 727 Hwy 36, Union Beach, NJ 07735. A repass will follow.
